I had the gearing mod done on my '74 approx 6 months ago and really love it! I purchased a rebuilt '85 720 3:70 geared "pumpkin" from a mini truck shop here in So Cal and had them install it, along with new outer axle seals too. All together it cost me $275, a little pricey maybe but it saved my L18 from screaming it's head off AND I gained 2-3 mpg. :) The 3:70 gear hardly afected the trucks take off, the L18 had no trouble adapting, BUT the highway RPM was definitely lowered by approx 1000 rpm on my truck. A big jump. There really is no downside to gearing your 620 higher (lower numbers-wise)!!
